The Martian Half-Marathon
First race of the year scheduled is “The Martian Half-Marathon”. I ran this race once back in 2012 and it held my PR for a half marathon until spring 2018 in a training run, and then again at the Detroit Free Press Marathon this year. It’s a local Detroit Metro area race, one of the biggest in Michigan and it’s a ton of fun. Most of the race is down Hines drive and because it’s Michigan we know the weather is unpredictable. It could be warm, rain or snow. It is one of the more fun races I’ve done and this year they are even keeping the half marathon open to walkers. To get an idea of the spirit of the race this is what they have posted on their website:
Why the Martians? Earth marathons have strange themes, with your flying pigs and your convoluted, NASA-calculated encounter projections. Our finest Martian philosophers and theologians are working tirelessly to compose our own (as you call it) “trash talk”, which we will shower upon you most mercilessly once our planet’s runners prove victorious in winning all the races and snagging all the prizes.
In the spirit of fun and excitement you should probably sign up for this race as well. Aside from being a ton of fun, it’s a mostly flat course and is a USATF certified course.
